Hiking Mount Cabot (4,170′ ft)

I put off Hiking Mount Cabot only because the drive to the trail-head is further than any other hike, about two and a half hours away. At the time I was hoping to knock off Mount Waumbek on the same trip but I wasn’t feeling up to a 17+ mile day. For me it would have required either a car spot or an overnighter somewhere along Kilkenny Ridge Trail. Instead, I’m planning to return next weekend to hike Waumbek and the four additional summits in the Presidential’s to finish off the New Hampshire 48. Total trip was about 10 miles with summits including The Horn and The Bulge.

I know, it seems like I start every post with early morning notch drives. Pinkham Notch never disappoint.

I’m thinking the Tacoma would look better with a new pair of shoes.

Frosty mornings mean Fall is fast approaching. It also means the best hiking weather all year.

Bunnel Notch Trail is seriously overgrown and well overdue for a haircut.

You don’t often see old cabins near the top of many summits. I believe Cabot Cabin is first come first serve and looks to sleep four people comfortably. It is certainly rough around the edges but would be a perfect spot to escape bad weather.
