  • About Me

  • My name is Tim. If there is one thing I've learned, it's that I dislike writing about myself. Because of that, you can find me behind the camera, hiking through the woods, reading, meditating and feeding my curiosity by studying a whole host of other subjects. Thanks for stopping by.

Saddleback and The Horn

Posted On August 2, 2018

It was finally time to tackle Saddleback and the Horn, the 8th and 12th highest peaks in Maine.  Both summits have 360 degree views and they are quite breathtaking.  The Appalachian Trail runs along the ridge of Saddleback and crosses over to the summit of the Horn.  We chose to hike from the parking lot of the now defunct Saddleback Ski Resort, straight up one of the overgrown ski trails.  It was a great day and the weather could not have been better.

For you keen eyed observers you might notice I didn’t shoot with my typical 35mm lens.  Last year it took a nasty fall (on this trip) from about waist level onto the ice, chipping the front element and locking up the focus ring.  It is currently out for repair at Sigma and I should have it back next week.  As a substitute I grabbed a 50mm lens from work to use on this hike.  It’s a longer focal distance than I’m used to but I really like the extra bit of reach it provides.
