It seems like I say this every year and it rings true every time. Fall is the best time to hike in Maine. The temps are cooler, the landscape is constantly changing and the crowds are thin. Rumford Whitecap was a mountain that I had driven past many times but the opportunity to hike it never materialized. Bald summits are some of my favorite hikes and I knew this one would be no exception.
Arriving at the top I was surprised to see that all the blueberry bushes had turned bright red. As I was gazing across the summit it felt like I stumbled into the middle of a forest fire. I’ve never seen anything like it. I tried my best to capture it with my camera but I feel it doesn’t quite compare to the reality of standing there. I’m guessing this is one of the mountains that is beautiful anytime of the year… so go hike Rumford Whitecap
